UK: Foreign Cannibal Ladybirds Invade Homes Across UK

  • Captured on Saturday 6th of October 2018

Description

Homes across the UK have been swarmed by large amounts of foreign ladybirds. The Harlequin ladybirds flew over after the hot summer, in search for a place to hibernate.

The Harlequin ladybirds, native to Asia, carries a fungal sexually transmitted infection called Laboulbeniales. This poses a huge threat to the local ladybird population as they are larger than other species and will even eat other ladybirds.

Thankfully, they are not harmful to humans although they do bite. Ouch!
